Egyptian Museums - Egyptology

Egypt is rich with many museums, in fact there are more than 34 museums all over Egypt, and they are divided into:



 Egypt National Museum:

They usually have collections from a specific period, or part of the Ancient Egyptian history
  1. The Egyptian Museum.
  2. The Coptic Museum.
  3. The Islamic Art Museum.
  4. The National Museum of Alexandria.
  5. Luxor Museum.
  6. Nubian Museum.
  7. Mahmoud Khalil Museum.

Egypt Local Museums:


They are mostly located in the capital of a local province. They usually have a collection of antiquities that have been found within the borders of the area

  1. Malawi Monuments Museum
  2. Tanta Museum
  3. Beni Suef Monuments Museum
  4. Wadi El Gedid Museum
  5. Ismalia Museum
  6. Port Said Museum

Egypt Contemporary Museums:


They exhibit relics from the era of Mohamed Ali and his family

  1. Mohamed Ali Palace in Shubra
  2. The Museum of the Royal Carriages in Cairo
  3. Royal Jewelry Museum
  4. El Gawhara Palace Museum
  5. Police Museum in Cairo
  6. Museum of Gayer Anderson
  7. Manial Palace Museum
Egypt Site Museums

They are usually attached to specific sites, and are small in size. They exhibit the artifacts that have been found around the archaeological site, instead of keeping the finds in a local antiquities store!

  1. The Khufu Solar Boat Museum
  2. The Museum of Imhotep in Saqqara
Theme and other miscellaneous Museums:

These museums were built to exhibit a particular type of artifact

  1. Egypt Agriculture Museum
  2. The Military Museum
  3. The Museum of Islamic Pottery
